How does Act One prepare the audience of Macbeth for the remainder of the play? Essay
William Shakespeareââ¬â¢s Macbeth is a play rich in imagery with vivid words and phrases that conjure up emotionally charged mental pictures. The way in which William Shakespeare uses contrasting scenes, especially in Act One only makes these images more vibrant. The many soliloquies in Act One illustrate the ways in which Macbethââ¬â¢s mind is tormented, however, it is also these soliloquies that make the audience feel sympathetic toward Macbeth and therefore make the play more tragic when Macbethââ¬â¢s character flaws. This emotional hold towards the protagonist created in Act One, makes Macbeth one of William Shakespeareââ¬â¢s most popular plays not only to modern audiences but also to the 17th century audience. The First Scene prepares the audience for the rest of the play as it shows the witches or the weird sisters in an evil light; this thought is amplified by the use of thunder and lightning. The language that the weird sisters use also readies the audience for the remainder of the play. The weird sisters speak in riddles and prophesise future events. For example they predict that they will meet again ââ¬Å"When the hurly-burlyââ¬â¢s done, When the battle is lost, and wonâ⬠. For a 17th century audience, where people believed it possible to summon the devil with such riddles, the apprehension that the audience already posses will amplify thus creating an anxious atmosphere within the playhouse. Nevertheless this prophecy gives the audience an insight into the remainder of the play and adds suspense as the witches use mysterious and menacing words, thus enticing the audience to continue watching. At the end of the scene the weird sisters chant ambiguous words such as ââ¬Å"Fair is foul, and foul is fairâ⬠this again gives the audience the impression that possible strange and supernatural events are to come, therefore further drawing them into the play. The quote also infers that later on in the play it will be hard to distinguish between good and bad or, alternatively ââ¬Å"fairâ⬠and ââ¬Å"foulâ⬠. Shakespeare would have been aware that the reigning monarch at the time of the plays release, James I had a strange fascination with supernatural events and witches, even participating in the infamous Pendal Witch Trial. By pleasing the monarch in this way it would have helped William Shakespeareââ¬â¢s promotion of the play, therefore helping to popularise it. Another prediction that the witches make is in Act One, Scene Three where they predict great things for Macbeth; ââ¬Å"All hail Macbeth, hail to thee, Thane of Cawdorâ⬠ââ¬Å"All hail Macbeth, that shalt be king hereafterâ⬠This prediction is very important for the foundations of the play, as it prepares the audience for murder and scandal and makes the audience more knowledgeable about whatââ¬â¢s to come, than some of the characters. It is this dramatic irony that allows the audience to be able to make predictions about subsequent Scenes. The portrayal of the protagonist Macbeth at the start of the First Act is one of a heroic, valiant servant to King Duncan. The Captain describes him as ââ¬Å"For brave Macbeth ââ¬â well he deserves that nameâ⬠. This rather glowing report gives the audience the impression that Macbeth is a loyal servant to the King, however the irony is that by the end of the Act he is plotting to commit regicide against Duncan. This contrast in character between courageousness and treachery makes the play gripping and exiting. The very first line that Macbeth says is ââ¬Å"So foul a fair a day I have not seenâ⬠these words seem to echo the chants of the weird sisters in the first scene. This seems to indicate that even having not met each other the witches have a supernatural influence on Macbeth, maybe in his mind and it shows that the weird sisters and Macbeth resemble each other, even at this early stage in the play. The words also hint that conflict and insecurity exist in his mind even though he has just won a great battle. This gives the audience a view into Macbethââ¬â¢s early thought processes, and this consequently readies them for the reminder of the play. When talking about killing the King, Macbeth uses less brutal euphemisms such as ââ¬Å"the deedâ⬠, ââ¬Å"this blowâ⬠and ââ¬Å"my intentâ⬠this infers that Macbeth is not all evil and he wants to think as little about the proposed murder of Duncan as possible. This gives the audience the impression that he is not going to be the main villain in the play and suggest that there will be an external influence that pushes him to carry out the murder, as observed by Aristotle in which he lists the ingredients for a tragedy. However the end of Act One prepares the audience for evil things to originate through Macbeth, as in Scene Seven he struggles with his conscience. Evidently bad things do come through Macbeth in the lat er Acts, in fact in Act Three he says; ââ¬Å"I am in blood steppââ¬â¢d in so far, that, should I wade no more, Returning were as tedious as go oââ¬â¢erâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ This tells us that Macbeth has done many terrible deeds and that if he were to go back and right his wrongs it would be as tedious as to go forward and carry on the tyranny. Thus his only option is to go forward to try and claim more glory. This terrible quandary that Macbeth finds himself in could be a bit of early political propaganda that William Shakespeare has slipped into the play to satisfy James I. The purpose of this subtly placed propaganda was to put-off any people who were scheming to commit regicide, at a time where there were many plots to kill the king; non-more famous than Guy Fawkesââ¬â¢ ââ¬Å"Gunpowder Plotâ⬠. In the play when Macbeth does kill Duncan unnatural events follow, such as Duncanââ¬â¢s horses eating each other. Ross recalls the event and says that the horses ââ¬Å"Turned wild in natureâ⬠and ââ¬Å"flung outâ⬠. This indicates to audiences that killing the King will provoke God to inflict unnatural events upon the earth, therefore inferring that Kings do have a divine right, a view that was firmly believed by James the First. Lady Macbeth is portrayed as a scheming villain who is behind Macbethââ¬â¢s murder of the King. The first thing that Macbethââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"dearest partner of greatnessâ⬠says is all about how to cause the downfall of Duncan for Macbethââ¬â¢s and her own personal gain. She is portrayed as rather a manly figure who has an overpowering role over Macbeth. An example of Lady Macbethââ¬â¢s male instincts is seen in Act One Scene Five when she calls on the sprits to ââ¬Å"unsexâ⬠her and make he become more manly to assist her plan for Duncanââ¬â¢s murder. ââ¬Å"â⬠¦.unsex me here And fill me from the crown of the toe topful Of dearest cruelty; make thick my bloodâ⬠This quote suggests to the audience that Lady Macbeth will be an evil unremorseful and ruthless character throughout the entire play; however ironically later in the text she becomes more conscious of her actions and Macbeth has more control over here. When her conscience returns she hallucinates and believes that she has blood on her hands. This is a massive contrast to what she told Macbeth when he was clearing the blood from his hands after Duncanââ¬â¢s murder; ââ¬Å"A little water clears us of this deedâ⬠. This contrast suggests that she is regretting her earlier actions and is indeed being tormented by them. In the First Act King Duncan is perceived as a gentle, ideal king. For example when talking of Cawdorââ¬â¢s treachery his words are full of personal regret and he has no malice in them. His language is also full of gratitude for the service Macbeth and Banquo have performed. However ironically because he is so fond of Macbeth he rather naively does not see his murder coming and he is easily fooled by Macbethââ¬â¢s and Lady Macbethââ¬â¢s welcoming looks and flattery. To back up this point an example of flattery towards the King is when Lady Macbeth repeatedly refers to him as ââ¬Å"Your majestyâ⬠which reinforces the idea of loyalty towards the King. The use of language by Lady Macbeth gives the audience the impression that she has a mischievous and cunning mind hence setting then up for later Acts. To conclude, at the start of Act One William Shakespeare cleverly misleads the audience into believing that the characters have sound morals, but as the play progresses we see this to be a faà ¯Ã ¿Ã ½ade. The plot becomes exiting for the audience as there earlier assumptions are proved incorrect in later acts. Also William Shakespeareââ¬â¢s use of juxtaposing scenes, which contrast with each other, often ironically prepares the audience for unexpected and surprising events in the play. The themes of greed, power and conspiracy found in Act One of Macbeth prove to be as relevant for a modern audience as they were for a 17th century one. They have the effect of an audience questioning the limits they would go to, to fulfil there own desires. However by the end of the play these questions should have been answered.

A personal performance manifesto based on the 21st century
A Manifesto is a document that seeks to pass certain information about a certain issue as viewed by somebody.à Personal performance Manifestos as such, are therefore documents that consists of an Individualââ¬â¢s views, about how an artiste presentations should be created and presented.Performance Manifesto historyà can be traced back to the early 1910ââ¬â¢s when groups of artistsà which included futurists, Dadaists and the likes, used themà to express their views on what art reallyà was and what it encompassed. There after performance manifesto have been recurrently used with main embassies associated to avant-garde Modernism.à Thus rise in the use of personal performance manifesto can be also associated to the emergence of internet technology which has created a potential world wide audience.According to Tristan Tzara (A historical artist), A performance manifesto is like a communication made to the whole world, whose main pretension is on the discovery of an instant cure for political, social, astronomical, economical artiste and literary syphilis. (Leeà Scivner ).à Performance of artiste presentations since their start hundreds of years back has undergone a series of transformation. This has been occasioned by things like, changing level of technology and preferences of people among many other reasons.à Performance of hundred years back is very different with contemporary performances in many aspects ranging from the styles, genres among many other aspects. However, these changes are not enough to satisfy the needs of the contemporary society.à Worse still the rapid change have caused some other valuable aspects which were common in historical performances to be ignored. Due to the above two reasons personal performance manifestos have been on the increase especially from critics and friends of theatre.A keen scrutinization of majority of this performance manifesto shows a uniform, a similar and a common argument, that the c ontemporary society is becoming more informed day by day and hence needs retirement and competency in general theatric performance. To begin, it would be fair to say that the contemporary society is dying to see a performance that is socio-political, economic, and erotical, mystical, that does not just make people amused for exchange of their hard-earned cash. The contemporary society needs performances that grows up not knowing it is performance at all, a performance given the chance of having a string point of zero.(Harron, C. and Wood, P (2006) Art in Theory, 1900 ââ¬â 2000 an anthology of changing ideas. 2 ed. USA Blackwell Publishing). The above things can only be achieved by doing away with bourgeois sickness, commercialized culture, work of dead performance, imitation, artificial performance, Abstract performance, illusionist performance and Mathematical performances.à Inn addition all people including both materially and morally (Fluxes manifestation by George Meckonaz à ¢â¬â 1963).Once more contemporary society is desperate for performance that will integrate many cultures of the world.à We are living in a world full of socio-political and economic injustices and therefore any avenue which seeks to take us away from these injustices is highly welcomed. In many instances performances have been staged with the main aim of addressing these injustices but sincerely speaking it has not been enough.à Therefore there is a great need form performance which will integrate the diverse cultures in view of addressing the above injustices which in most cases are brought about by cultural differences.Art, Music and Poetry the three mean genres of performance need to be fully recognized by the relevant authorities.à It is only by due recognizers that the quality of performance will be improved. This is because potential and practicing performances will start taking their work seriously and therefore give a performance which is in line with 21st Century performance expectations.à The relevant authorities have included Ministries in charge of social affairs and governments. The above views and opinions about the fate of performance in respect to 21st century expectations do not mean the state of performance as of now are pathetic.à This is only an eye opener to the stakeholders in the performance industry so that they can pull up their socks and live to the standards of the changing world. As a matter of fact contemporary performance can be said to be among the very many sectors which have struggled to stay in level with changes of time and technology.à It is not a surprise therefore new styles of performance have sprouted all over. For instance in Music new styles have come up with the latest being hi-hop music.à Contemporary artists (sculptors, painters) Writers, Poets are also doing a commendable job but t is imperative that they put more efforts in their work to stay in level with the 21st Century demands.Another area sensitive to performance industry is production of artistic works.à This is where contemporary performance is failing as compared to historic performances.à With emerging technology it is obvious production of artists work is done with care and without any problems arising, but it is sad to not that unscrupulous à pirates are making use of improvement in technology to come up with illegal publications of these artistic works without the consent of the artists producer. This needs to be done away with once and for all, so as to let the real beneficiaries of royalties coming from the sale of their music. This manifesto also covers the improvement of performance instruments and equipments as another key method of taking performances in general to a higher level in relation to 21st Century.à Most of artistic performances require the accompaniment of instruments. As such, therefore latest instruments and equipments need to be invented and pt into constant use.à Many are time when potential performers are limited to the option of producing their items.à This is sometimes due to lack of enough funds to access the equipments. There is dire need also to change the mode of presentation of performances..à A new mode or language of presentation should be introduced so as to help save the audience of the usual common place methods of performance presentation.Lastly it is important that the actors and the audience collaborates and share ideas as to what really needs to be addressed in the contemporary performances.à This will enable actors and artists to come up with only those performances that are morally upright and help the contemporary society in solving mysteries of nature. This manifesto is not in any way exhaustive as to what needs to be done or not in contemporary performances to meet the 21st century demands.à Therefore the above listed views and opinions may be challenged but of importance to note is that they were arrived at after a careful scrutization of the current and historical performance trends.à They are practically possible to implement and therefore result driven.A Critical Reflection of the above Personal Performance ManifestoOnce again it is in order to note that the writing of Manifestos is not a practice which has started just the other day as explained above.Manifesto writing has been with us over the last one hundred years.à Critics and artists write manifestos so as to relay a message of dissatisfaction of a previous practice and therefore put forth a correctional course of action.à In relation to the above manifesto for the 21st century it is crystal clear that the previous practices employed in performance industry needs to be overhauled if the 21st century demands and expectations are to be realized. The manifestos recommendations are therefore not in any way hollow, they are commonplaceâ⬠¦. Yes but greatly serves to put the level of performances in the right track towards the 21st cent ury expectations. The Manifesto talked of performances that are in themselves informing.à It is just sad to note that even today people continue staging performances which are substandard despite many efforts by other people who are determined to take performance industry a level higher. This point seeks to bring out the difference between what contemporary performance should give its audience as compared to the historical performances when things were very different from what they are today. In respect to Karen Finley who is currently based in New York, performance need also to take a different dimension if they will continue being used as a tool for informing, educating and also entertaining.Karen has pushed beyond the boundaries of normal practices and natural acts and as a result her works have drawn a lot of attention.Although this much attention led her in to waling along the corridors of justice following low suits filed against her work by politicians it is a nice piece of w ork for the 21st century.

President Nixon s The War On Drugs Essay - 2295 Words
President Nixon first declared the ââ¬Å"war on drugsâ⬠on June of 1971. This came after heavy drug use during the 1960s. New York in particular, had a rise in heroin use. After Nixonââ¬â¢s declaration, states began decriminalizing the possession and distribution of marijuana and other drugs. Many small drug offences led to a mandatory fifteen years to life. This Drug War has led to an increase of incarceration rates since. One of the earliest laws that followed Nixonââ¬â¢s announcement were the Rockefeller Drug Laws that to not only failed to deter crime but also lead to other problems in the criminal justice system. With the Rockefeller Drug Laws came heavy racial disparity of those incarcerated for drug related crimes. Although the Obama Administration has begun reforms, the new President Elect Trumpââ¬â¢s views may bring all the efforts back down. Nixonââ¬â¢s declaration had pushed law makers and politicians across the states to implement more punitive drug laws . Prior to the Nixonââ¬â¢s declaration, New Yorkââ¬â¢s governor Nelson Rockefeller ââ¬Å"had backed drug rehabilitation, job training and housingâ⬠to combat the cityââ¬â¢s drug problems (Mann, Brian. ââ¬Å"The Drug Laws That Changed How We Punishâ⬠. Change Management Industrial and Commercial Training
Question: Discuss about theChange Managementfor Industrial and Commercial Training. Answer: Introduction According to Hon, Bloom, Crant (2011), in the words of a Green philosopher, Heraclitus, change is the only constant in life. This means that the only thing that remains unchanged is change itself. Organizational change occurs when a company changes from its current state to the desired future state. When an organization goes through changes, the marketing professionals continually make changes in the marketing strategies and they update with new trends, policies, concepts and tools. These changes are made so that the organizations and consumers can benefit leading to increasing market share. The marketers need to ensure that the marketing practices involve change and they also have readiness to change. The aim of this report is to analyse the role of marketing professionals in change management. Moreover, an assessment is made on personal and professional experiences with respect to responsibilities and whether there is a readiness for change. Role of Marketing Professionals in Change Management Change management is an important area for the leaders and it must be embraced entirely in the organization. From the period of announcement through the installation of change, the leaders play a crucial role in managing change. A successful organization change depends on the leaders such as managers who manage the people going through the change (Appelbaum et al., 2015). The marketing professionals or marketers play a vital role in the business for influencing the profitability. They devise several strategies and tactics that help the organization move forward and the strengths of the products and services is well presented. Therefore, when an organization goes through change, the marketers constantly need to develop strategies and tactics that would be in alignment with the desired change (Hon, Bloom, Crant, 2011). The general issues faced by the marketers while an organization is transforming is the technical and people aspects. The leader controls everything as they want everything going according to their plan and no unwanted outcomes. The marketing professionals assume that change is a predictable process and behaviours must be adopted in a manner for driving transformations. The leaders play the role of a shaper in which they personally control what is done and expect others to follow their lead. As the marketers are responsible for driving the influential strategies and tactics, they are responsible for a top-down process transformation through a step-by-step process (Mariani et al., 2014). The leaders also play the role of enablers in which they focus on doing change with people. The marketers play the enabling role in organization and creating conditions that encourage people to contribute and enhance from the transformation process. As an enabler, the marketing professionals also more aligned towards emotional support. The marketers can go around appraising the marketing team so that they design better strategies and campaigns that would integrate with the desired change or transformation (Hayes, 2012). The marketers share a sense of purpose, direction and inspiration where people understand the need for change. The marketers also play the role of a role model where they might be willing to go first. The marketers demonstrate behaviours and attitudes which they expect from their marketing team. The other team members watch the professionals for consistency so that they are assured about the new marketing strategies shall be well implemented. The marketing professionals shall be self-aware and deliberate (Cameron Green, 2012). The marketing professionals pay the role of the voice. These professionals communicate, share information, new marketing tactics and offer encouragement. When the other teams or employees hear the news of change in the organization, they might panic or lose motivation at work. The marketing leaders need to balance the change message and act as transparent or consistent voice. Further, the marketing professionals must create a sense of urgency so that experimentation of marketing strategies can be done. The marketers must show passion and commitment about getting things done. The marketers play the role of enforcer in which they hold the marketing team members accountable for change. The marketing professionals understand the underlying reasons that the hindrances can be removed (Powers et al., 2012). Without a change management program that addresses the uniqueness of marketing, effort is wasted, resources are squandered, and initiatives are delayed. A thoughtfully crafted change management program cuts short the time it takes to accomplish needed change and drives the long-term ownership needed to meet goals (Fulgoni Lipsman, 2014). Readiness for Change According to The Stages of Change model, I shall assess my readiness to change drawing on my personal and professional experiences. The model shall help me in evaluating my readiness to change. In the first stage, procontemplation, an individual is not even considering changing. The individuals are in denial as they have made several attempts to change and might have given up. The individuals feel as if the situation they are stuck in is hopeless. Moreover, the individuals want the others to change. Recalling on my personal experience, a couple of years back I had several issues with my health. The medication required for recovering from ill health involved changing my regular diet plan extensively (Leonard et al., 2013). I agree with the fact I could not switch to the recommended dietary plan completely, but I was not unwilling to change my dietary plans. I was concerned about my eating habits and wanted my health to recover soon. Therefore, I made changes in my diet plans by keeping my issues aside. I had an intention of changing and rationalizing my issues by changing myself which clearly indicates that I am not in the stage of precontemplation (Klonek et al., 2014). The second stage is contemplation which indicates that an individual is ambivalent about changing. In this stage, the individuals make an evaluation and comparison weighing benefits and costs. The individuals acknowledge the problem and the role played by them in it. The individuals may not be ready for change and they wait for the magic sign. Drawing on one of my professional experiences, at my previous workplace a new branch was rented. However, visiting my older office for quite a time, I was used to visit the place and work with my regular colleagues. However, the new office had a greater scope of opportunities and scope in the professional line. I did not behave adamantly and agreed to my manager regarding my shift in workplace branch. I evaluated the benefits I could obtain by visiting the new branch of my office which made me ready to accept the change. I did not wait for any magic sign which clearly indicates that I am past the contemplation phase (Prochaska, Norcross, DiCle mente, 2013). The third stage is preparation in which the individual is prepared to experiment with small changes. The individuals develop realistic goals and provide positive reinforcement. The individuals need final reassurances that give them a push to move to a step to accept change. The fourth stage is action in which the individual takes definitive action for changing behaviour. There is a need for positive reinforcement by peers or family members that help the individuals overlook possible relapse. The last stage is maintenance and termination in which the individual maintains new behaviour for a very long time. The individuals consolidate gains and communicate about maintaining the new change. However, they tend to use the backup plans in case there is a failure (Mariani et al., 2014). I support the thought of the time is now and believe in making small experiments to check if the change is working in a positive direction. For example, I had to change my city when my parents moved to another city. The school friends, teachers and other mates had changed. It made me afraid in the beginning and I was scared to accept change. However, with time I started experimenting and going out with new people. I was shy in the beginning but with time I became a part of their world. Moreover, I made efforts to adjust in the new environment as my parents generated positive reinforcement. They acted as a great source of motivation which helped me adjust in the new environment by accepting change (Klonek et al., 2014). Therefore, drawing on my personal and professional experiences it can be interpreted that I have readiness to accept change. I have a strong willingness and determination to change as I make constant efforts to change for the good. Conclusion Conclusively, change management is a process that not only requires acceptance to change among employees, but also the leaders. When an organization goes through changes, the marketing professionals continually make changes in the marketing strategies and they update with new trends, policies, concepts and tools. A successful organization change depends on the leaders such as managers who manage the people going through the change. The marketing professionals assume that change is a predictable process and behaviours must be adopted in a manner for driving transformations. The marketers demonstrate behaviours and attitudes which they expect from their marketing team. References Appelbaum, S. H., Degbe, M. C., MacDonald, O., Nguyen-Quang, T. S. (2015). Trainspotting Essay Example
Trainspotting Essay Trainspotting is a fictionary film focusing on a young boy: Mark Renton and his friends who live in the depressed and grimy side of the big city Edinburgh. Like most of friends Mark does heroin to escape the stress and pain of the modern-day life, he also loves the rush that he gets from drug. Mark stands without a job and therefor has no other way of financing his expensive habit than to do shoplifting, robberies and mugging people on the street. At last he goes to rehab and goes to London where he finds a nice apartment, a legal source of income and just some peace in general. However his old friends offer him a very nice deal that gets him back in the world of drugs and crime. In the end he runs off with all the money that he and friends retrieve from the deal. 2) Settings: The film takes place in Edinburgh in the dark and gritty environment. The film doesnt directly tell what time it is set, and instead it hints its timeline through the music, clothes and football that they watch. There are throughout the film, some suggestions that it may actually be set in the early 1990s, such as the techno music and a scene on which the characters talk about Russian sailors. The film could be set from anywhere between the 80ââ¬â¢s to 1993 where the novel was released. Also their apartment is messy, no beds and there is needles and crack pipes everywhere. Also the movie is filmed in low-key and the weather is cloudy and dark almost throughout the whole movie and that makes Edinburgh look like a sad/dirty place filled with criminals and drug abusers. 3) Characterizations: The main protagonist is Mark Renton; he is a young boy whose life is overtaken by heroin. He is unemployed and doesnââ¬â¢t study. He is a big fan of ââ¬â¢Iggy Pop and has posters of him in his room. We see that the addiction has been going on for a long time and he tries several times throughout the move to quit heroin but every time he comes back because he canââ¬â¢t live without the kick that drugs give him. ââ¬â¢ imagine the best orgasm you ever had and multiply it by a thousand and youre not even there He overdoses once but after his visit to the hospital, he is like a new character, he finds a job, his own apartment and lives well until his old friends comes to haun t him.Sick Boy is the intelligent James Bond wannabe smart guy. He is a pimp and is very active in the criminal world. It seems like he doesnââ¬â¢t care about other people than himself. An example would be his baby that died because he had taken so many drugs that he had forgotten to feed him. Begbie is the top dog of the group. He thinks that he is better than everybody and if someone messes with his views or angers him they will learn it the hard way that he is not one to mess with.He doesnââ¬â¢t do drugs like the other boys because he says that he doesnââ¬â¢t want to ââ¬â¢poison his body, but he doesnââ¬â¢t consider alcohol as poison. Sometimes you wonder why the boys stay friends with a psychopath like Begbie but maybe he wasnââ¬â¢t violent and antisocial when him and the boys first became friends. Spud is the dumbest out of the boys. He doesnââ¬â¢t know to behave for example he went to a job interview while he was high and when he was supposed to have sex w ith girlfriend he was too drunk to do anything. When he woke up in the morning he had realized that he shat in his girlfriendââ¬â¢s sheets. He accidently throws the feces on his girlfriendââ¬â¢s parents. He is also the only person that receives some money from Renton in the end. Tommy is a contrast to all the other boys. He is athletic, doesnââ¬â¢t do any drugs and loves to watch football. One day he decides to try drugs because Renton recommends it and that really messes him up and in the end he is the one that is most affected both physically and mentally by the drugs and he actually dies from aids.
